Principal's Letter for January
Happy New Year! I hope you had an enjoyable holiday season while spending time with family and friends.
For the New Year, we want your child to accomplish more and experience higher levels of success! Students in grades 3-5 will be taking their NYS ELA and Math Tests in March and April. To support their success, we are beginning our NYS Test Prep Academy for students in grades 3-5 earlier this year, during our after-school program on Wednesdays and Thursdays. So, if you have a child in grades 3-5, who is not currently attending our after-school program, you can sign them up to attend the Test Prep Academy that begins January 15, on Wednesdays and Thursdays. They will receive additional support in English Language Arts and math, along with test sophistication.
Last, as we begin the New Year and a new month, the entire Lighthouse school community will be learning a new character trait – equity. Equity is ensuring that everyone has access and opportunities to succeed. For example, everyone should have access to a high-quality education, regardless of their backgrounds. I encourage you to engage your child in conversations about equity and the role each of us play in ensuring equity in our daily lives. It is also important to continue to review the previously learned traits such as: confidence, justice, gratitude, and integrity. Working together, we can help your child make decisions that are rooted in good character!
Wishing you and your family health, peace, and a prosperous New Year!
